4 Signs of Your Period You Shouldn't Ignore

Does your tummy hurt when your period arrives? Do you feel more like going to the bathroom? This is totally normal. However, there are menstrual period signs that you shouldn’t ignore. On many occasions they can alert us to something more serious.

In the face of any unusual symptoms or pain, we should not be ashamed to go to the doctor.  If he tells us that what we feel is normal, at least we’ll be at ease. The problem is that we tend to normalize everything, justifying certain symptoms under the phrase  “it’s because of menstruation”.

Signs of the menstrual period that deserve attention

Next, we’ll discover 4 menstrual signs that you shouldn’t ignore and that will alert you to something that has nothing to do with menstruation. It’s important that you pay attention to them and be honest with yourself whether they happen or not.

1.

Imagine that your period has to come this month, but it didn’t. When the next month comes around, it shows up, so we remain calm thinking it’s something that can happen. This is called amenorrhea, and it has nothing to do with a possible pregnancy.

However,  it is not normal for menstruation to skip one cycle and sometimes even two.  Even if we are not pregnant, we have to go to the doctor to talk about it. The reasons for amenorrhea can be any of the following:

  • Hormonal Imbalances
  • Thyroid Problems
  • overexertion
  • poor diet
  • Stress, Anxiety or Depression
  • early menopause
menstrual cycle

2. Very strong cramps and pain

It is natural for a woman to feel uncomfortable, uncomfortable and in pain during menstruation. However, if these pains or cramps are very severe, they should be given proper attention. For this, we must answer the following questions:

Do I have sharp pain on only one side of my abdomen? Along with this kind of pain comes excessively heavy menstruation? If we have answered yes, we may be experiencing one of the following problems:

  • Endometriosis: The tissue that must grow inside the uterus starts to grow outside the uterus, in the fallopian tubes, ovaries or even in the bladder.
  • Ovarian torsion: The ovary rotates around the ligament that supports it, causing blood not to circulate as it should. In extreme cases, the ovary can be lost.
  • Uterine fibroids: are cysts, initially benign, that grow in the muscle tissue of the uterus. Most are asymptomatic, but in some cases severe pain may occur.

3. Abnormal bleeding

Sometimes abnormal bleeding does not indicate any serious problems.  However, it won’t hurt our doctor to take a look.

If we always have abnormal bleeding between cycles or even menstruation comes with irregular strength (very heavy or very low) we should pay attention.

Menstruation

If you are taking birth control pills, these menstrual signs may not indicate anything serious. However, were the pills prescribed because you were diagnosed with ovarian cysts?

Abnormal bleeding between cycles, a completely irregular menstruation and sometimes intended to remain absent can indicate some type of ovarian cyst, fibroids, or abnormal estrogen production.

4. Fever and dizziness

The last of the menstrual signs that you shouldn’t ignore is the one that has to do with dizziness, fever, and even drops in blood pressure. It shouldn’t happen, so if it happens to you, maybe there’s something wrong with your body.

If your blood pressure drops too low, it could indicate a problem.  However, we have to say that it is normal for you to notice a small decrease in the first few days or even before your period stops.

Now, what shouldn’t happen is that you suffer from fever or dizziness. In these cases, we may be facing a pelvic inflammatory disease that occurs due to bacteria. On many occasions, this bacteria has to do with chlamydia and gonorrhea.

Have you ever noticed these signs in your period? Have you been to the doctor to find out what’s going on? Believing that some symptoms are normal can prevent us from solving a problem that is depriving us of our well-being.
